Vineyard Manager
Dave has been our Vineyard Manager since 2003. As such he supervises Malivoire's vineyard operations and is responsible for delivering the calibre of fruit required by the Winemaker. Dave is always on the move. Because his desk is the driver'
s seat of his truck, there was no way we could get him to put his curriculum vitae on paper. He did grant us the time for an on-the-fly, lane-side interview:
Q: Thanks for doing this.
Dave: Whatever blows your skirt up. Five minutes, tops. HEY! HEY! WHO YA TRYIN TA KILL WITH THAT?! Make that two minutes.
Q: So I understand you're a lifelong Niagara resident and a 1987 graduate of the Horticultural programme at Niagara College. You spent fourteen years as an orchard crop inspector and Manager of a large garden supply outlet.
Dave: Hang on. FORGET ROW 48, HELP MANNY IN 52. Yeah what you said. What else?
Q: In 2001 you decided to expand your expertise in viticulture, and that's when you came to Malivoire, right?
Dave: LLOYD! WHERE'S ED? I GOT TWO GUYS WAITING FOR HIM WITH NOTHING TO DO. What else you want to know?
Q: Are there any challenges about your work that you'd like to talk about?
Dave: Ever try to hold a beer can after doing head cuts all day?
Q: Anything else?
Dave: If you take your foot off my running board I can move this thing.
Q: Thanks.
Dave: Anytime.
