"Sorry Mr. Malivoire, ...
Let us end the confusion. Two of our very special, limited edition wines have just been released. These wines are the spear point of our highly anticipated 2007 vintage that will reward us with exciting new wines over the months to come. For breakfast and brunch foods, salads, fruit salads and other desserts, it has to be Chardonnay Musqué. Since our initial vintage of this wine in 2002, we’ve shown that we know how to handle this vivacious grape. The key is timing, knowing to pick precisely when the elusive aromatics are at their most exotic. Like its forerunners, our 2007 is semi-sweet but frisky on the tongue, thanks to a delicate spritz from the wine’s natural carbonation. The fruit flavours are bright and lively, suggesting tangerine, peach, apricot and banana Popsicle. For oysters, mussels and other shellfish, it’s Melon. Malivoire pioneered the introduction of Melon to Canada. This is the same variety used for the highly popular Muscadet wines of France’s Loire valley. Green apple and orange zest tempt your nose. The hot, dry growing season of 2007 gave us a Melon that is creamier and less biting that its 2006 counterpart. Even so, the characteristically elevated acidity of this wine presents a lemony fruitiness bursting with lime and blending to a soft, mineral finish. A stingy 40 cases could be pried from our thirsty vineyard. Yours for $20 per bottle, $240 per 12-bottle case, including provincial bottle deposit.

Our Next Event will be Gastronomically Correct Next month we’ll reach deep into our library cellar to retrieve twenty rare wines from Malivoire’s fabled founding vintages. Matured to superior complexity, we will offer a vertical tasting of Moira Vineyard Chardonnay, Courtney Gamay, Pinot Noir, Old Vines Foch, and Riesling Icewine to a fortunate few. Seventy (70) seats in total will be available for our March 29th and 30th Library Tasting, at $75 per person. A variety of intriguing foods will be selected and prepared specifically to match each of the wine groups. Some sample pairings could be - Canadian Cheese and Courtney Gamay, Braised Lamb and Pinot Noir, Lobster Chowder and Moira Vineyard Chardonnay, and traditional Cassoulet from Castelnaudary and Old Vines Foch. Serving will begin at 12:30 p.m. both days. If you’d like to join us, please contact the winery by telephone, at 866-644-2244. Our last winery event (Gastronomy in the Quonset) was completely booked within 24 hours.
Malivoire Goes West For the third consecutive year, Martin Malivoire has taken a staff contingent on a winter tour of a distant wine region. Past destinations were California and Burgundy. This year our thirsty pilgrims set their compass for Oregon’s Willamette Valley, prized for its fine Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer among other varieties. Joining them were Tim and Nick, two wine enthusiasts who out-bid their rivals for this opportunity at last summer’s Niagara Wine Auction. While inspecting some of the Valley’s most proficient wineries and vineyards, the team also took time to sample local cuisine and culture. Our travellers have just returned and a photo-journal of their discoveries will appear soon on our website. (See photo at left)
