New Releases

2005 Gamay
By the time this reaches you our popular 2004 Escarpment Gamay will be gone. Take heart, though; the follow-up is a spectacular sequel of new world fruit and barrel.

The 2005 Gamay has a vibrant ruby colour; an intense nose of fresh, ripe bramble fruits followed by sweet cherry, vanilla and cedar on the palate. The finish leaves you with soft tannin, lively acidity and ripe black cherry.

This wine over delivers at $16.00 a 750ml bottle / $192.00 per case based on a recent tasting with top flight Beaujolais. For winemaker's notes, click here.

2006 Estate Gewürztraminer
Our 2005 Eastman Gewürztraminer is also fast on its way to the "past vintages" gallery, but our 2006 Estate Gewürztraminer is ready to move in. Like other local growers, we were delighted by the characteristics that 2006 gave Niagara Gewürztraminers.

This new vintage abounds with rosewater, mandarin orange and lychee on the nose. The palate, underlined by tannins and supple acidity, is lively, full and elegant, combining flavours of grapefruit, apricot and ginger.

The price is $25.80 a 750ml bottle / $309.60 per case. For winemaker's notes, click here.

The Last Call

Along with our 2004 Gamay and 2005 Eastman Gewürztraminer, our supply of 2004 Estate Pinot Noir is vanishing rapidly. We expect these wines to be sold out by the end of July.

Ordering Is Easy

Taste Fee or Taste Free?

After a great deal of thought (years, actually), Malivoire this summer has set a tasting fee for visitors to the winery. To general visitors we now offer any four samples chosen from our list for $5.00.

This satisfies a number of objectives; to support our commitment to conscientious serving and consumption of alcohol and, we trust you understand, to lessen the considerable cost of reducing our wine supply to provide tastings. As you know, Malivoire does not create vast quantities of wine, making it very important to sell what little we have.

Having said that, we have always had the greatest appreciation for our supporters and, if you have a customer number with us we would like to extend you the option of continuing to taste free of charge this year. When you visit, simply tell your winery host that you are a member of our mailing list and the fee will be waived.

Speaking of which, we hope we've given you good reasons to plan a visit here soon. As always if you aren't able to come to the winery and need to order your wine instead, you can count on our prompt attention.

Link to Malivoire's New Look

We've been busy behind the scenes. Early July rain has given us a welcome reprieve from the near-drought conditions of June. On our vines, clusters are forming. The grapes are roughly pea-size and growing more rapidly. Dave's team has been planting new vines in the Moira Vineyard. Elsewhere their days have been busy with shoot tucking and cluster and leaf thinning. In the winery, Shiraz and his assistants are transferring a future vintage of gamay from the barrel cellar to stainless steel for blending and stabilization.

While the fruits of the above are yet to come, the results of another long project can be seen now. Since last winter we've been gradually overhauling the Malivoire website, with new photos being taken, new pages written and old ones rewritten while Cathy carefully assembles the pieces.

Last month, choosing to delay the fanfare, we quietly activated the new site. After giving ourselves a couple of weeks to micro study it, we're ready to declare this ship launched!
