On the last night of 1997 Martin Malivoire, Moira Saganski and nine friends thrust their boots into a snowy vineyard. With a new year and the opening of Martin and Moira’s new winery on the horizon, the team had gathered to harvest the carefully tended Gewurztraminer grapes that had been reserved for the new Malivoire Wine Company’s debut Icewine. It was revered at several international wine competitions as "the best estate grown sweet wine in the world", and rarely sees the market these days at a price of under $500.00 per bottle. Fast forward ten years… On the second day of 2008, with a just-ending 2007 vintage already being praised as one of Niagara’s best, a volunteer company now numbering forty-one assembled for Malivoire’s eleventh Icewine harvest. This one truly fulfills the high expectations of our heritage and of the 2007 vintage. Deep and rich with a dark garnet lustre, our 2007 Cabernet Franc Icewine bursts with ripe strawberry, rhubarb, sour cherry, blood orange and other berry and fruit aromas and flavours. Voluptuously fruity on the nose and intense on the palate, this Icewine finishes with a refreshing hint of tartness. Our 2007 Cabernet Franc Icewine has only one downside; as with other wines from this vintage, the supply is not large. Food Pairings: This beautiful wine needs only a simple food pairing - enjoy it with the best blue cheese you can find (e.g. "Bleu d'Averne"). Proprietor Martin Malivoire has extended a helping hand to health services in his childhood hometown, Oakville. A large part of Martin’s personal wine collection has been donated to the Oakville Hospital Foundation (OTMH). The appraised value of the wine makes it the largest donation in the Foundation’s history. These collector-cherished vintages, from Burgundy, the Rhone, Napa, Tuscany and other great wine regions around the word, will be offered at the OTMH Fine Wine Auction, to be held Thursday September 18th at The Oakville Golf and Country Club. Proceeds will buy essential new equipment for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. 2006 Old Vines Foch: You’re getting warmer…Thank you for your daily inquiries about our 2006 vintage of this uncommon (and uncommonly popular) red wine.
