2007 Old Vines Foch VQA

Proud and powerful. Commanding aromas of espresso, dark chocolate, ripe currant, sultana raisin and vanilla. Flavours suggest blackberry, blueberry, cocoa and seared caramel. Characteristic acidity and soft tannins reward the palate with a velvety mouthfeel.

Winemaker's Notes

Made from thirty-three year old vines. Well into their declining years, these vines have naturally low vigor, providing sun-exposed, concentrated fruit. Treated with respect both in the vineyard and in the cellar, our Foch expresses its fullest, most robust potential.

Hand harvested in mid September, the vineyard produced a yield of only 13 hL/ha. Fermented in open top tanks, followed by 11 months in American oak barrels. Aromas of plum and dry fig, flavours of black cherry, coffee and cranberry, full bodied yet velvety smooth, this is a bold wine for bold foods.

dense purple-black, stains the glass; spicy, mulberry, vanilla oak; dry, medium-bodied with a savoury finish. Fine spine of acidity. Rating: 88
