This unique Melon owes its existence to two passions - wine and oysters - and one misunderstanding. To grow a wine that would complement oysters, Martin Malivoire ordered Muscat vines from France. However, what arrived, was planted, nurtured, and thrived on the Beamsville Bench was not the Muscat he'd requested, but Muscadet, or Melon. Martin's Oyster Wine is now the "pearl" coveted by all who love shellfish, and happy accidents.

Winemaker's Notes
These grapes were harvested from the Winery's Estate vineyard on the Beamsville Bench September 25, 2008 at 19.8 degrees brix and 11.1 g/l titratable acidity. Cool-fermented dry, with some lees contact, it was bottled young for full fruitiness. In order to capture this wine's extreme youthfulness, it was minimally processed and may throw harmless tartrate crystals (wine diamonds) when chilled. To order this wine, please call the winery at 1-866-644-2244

Melon de Bourgogne is the grape used in the Muscadet appellation in France’s Loire Valley, and although Malivoire’s vines arrived here mistaken for muscat, this grape is a fit in Ontario’s soils and climate. This shows a clean mild nose of fresh apple, lemon and thyme. It’s light bodied and very tart, with great minerality and tensions. Slightly spritzy; very fresh, correct and pure.
