2009 Melon VQA

This unique Melon owes its existence to two passions - wine and oysters - and one misunderstanding. To grow a wine that would complement oysters, Martin Malivoire ordered Muscat vines from France. However, what arrived, was planted, nurtured, and thrived on the Beamsville Bench was not the Muscat he'd requested, but Muscadet, or Melon. Martin's Oyster Wine is now the "pearl" coveted by all who love shellfish, and happy accidents

Winemaker's Notes

These grapes were harvested from the Winery's Estate vineyard on the Beamsville Bench October 13, 2009 at 20.7 degrees brix and 9.9 g/l titratable acidity. Cool-fermented dry, with lees contact before and after fermentation, it was bottled young for full fruitiness. In order to capture this wine's extreme youthfulness, it was minimally processed and may throw harmless tartrate crystals (wine diamonds) when chilled.  Only 80 cases of 375 ml. “split” bottles were made.

Food Pairings

For oysters, mussels and other shellfish, it’s Melon.
