2008 Niagara Escarpment Pinot Noir VQA

The rich, earthy, lively nose is perfumed with nuances of wildflowers and spice. Silky and elegant in the mouth, it tastes of fresh cherry and ripe raspberry with a cedary spiciness. This wine is drinking well now and is ready to enjoy with food or on its own.

Winemaker's Notes

A first for Malivoire, Niagara Escarpment Pinot Noir is a blend of four vineyards: 52% Estate Vineyard, 32% Moira Vineyard, 8% Mottiar Vineyard and 8% Hughes Vineyard. Each barrel was individually selected to make this expression of pinot noir.

The 2008 vintage was cool and damp expressing the delightful aromas and delicate flavours Pinot noir is known for. Hand harvested between September 24th and October 3rd, the average sugars were 20.7° brix. Titratable acidity was measured at 8.5 g/l, and pH at 3.4. Each batch was fermented separately in open top oak cuves followed by extended post-fermentation skin contact. This wine was then transferred to tight-grained, medium toast French oak barrels, 36% new, for eleven months of ageing, during which time the wine went through full malolactic fermentation. Six hundred and twelve cases were bottled. Drink between 2010 and 2014.

Food Pairings

Try classic matches like beef, duck, wild mushrooms or wild boar. Versatile enough to pair with pork tenderloin, barbequed wild salmon or veal with a mustard sauce.
