Vintage Malivoire

Visit Malivoire
When you approach the winery the first thing to seize your attention will be the landscaping. Our groundskeeper has covered both sides of our ravine driveway with native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Not only do these provide vivid colour through three seasons, they also attract wildlife.

The steel canopies and rock pillars protecting our entrances were inspired by Canada's rugged natural landscapes; one is reminded of the Niagara Escarpment of the Canadian Shield. The wooden supports bracing the canopies are discarded telephone poles made of Canadian Red Pine. Here Malivoire validates two of its priorities, conscientious use (and re-use) of natural resources while reinforcing its Canadian identity.

Inside the visitor is met by a sweeping, horseshoe-shaped presentation bar. The rich wood surface was formed from the trunk of an elm tree, which had reached the end of its life and collapsed on an Ontario farm. By using a fallen tree for this magnificent structure, Malivoire avoided the need to take down a living tree.

To the left as you enter, you will see a brightly animated wall-length mural. The longer you look at it the more you realize that it's not just a picture. The mural is a playful work, telling a story full of clues about Malivoire's methods and goals.

You can never be sure who you'll see on the other side of the bar. It might be Eric (if he's not helping Dave or Shiraz or obsessing over a promotional piece), Debbie (if she's not working on the website, designing the winery collateral or organizing an offsite event), Ernie (if he's not meeting with the Wine Council, negotiating with a contractor or loading a truck) or Jean (if she's not doing everything else). Our staff participate in all aspects of running a winery so, if you're not into long conversation, a simple question like "What have you been up to?" can be dangerous.

What you taste here is yours to decide with the help of our staff. Any wine on our current list is available, keeping in mind that we do follow provincial guidelines limiting visitors to four one-ounce samples each. If your timing is right, one or more of our "Limited Edition" wines may be open to sample.
