Your nose finds rosewater, mandarin orange and lychee. The palate, underlined by tannins and supple acidity, is lively, full and elegant, combining flavours of grapefruit, apricot and ginger.
Winemaker's Notes:
Hot and dry, 2007 forced the vines to produce very low yields with small berries.
Light golden in appearance. Aromas explode from the glass include perfume, peach brandy and candied pineapple. The mouth feel is creamy and rich with flavours of nougat, dried banana, pink grapefruit, and clove. Wonderful tangy finish.
Hand harvested on September 30th, and then further sorted prior to destemming, the fruit averaged 24.1 obrix, 4 g/l titratable acidity and 3.6 pH. The grapes were chilled and left to soak on their skins for 42 hours to further extract aromas and flavours before pressing. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, the finished wine has 17 g/l residual sugar. Bottled April 11, 2008 in an elegant 375ml bottle, closed with cork.
From our own Estate vineyard, these vines, planted in 1999 and 2000 were propagated from select plants out of our old gewürztraminer block in the Moira vineyard.
Food Pairings:
Mildly curried fish, pork or chicken casserole, fried chicken or mildly curried pork.
Wine Reviews:
"This is sold in half-bottles only, first, because the yield was so low, and second, because the wine is so intensely flavoured that Martin Malivoire thought a half bottle was all that two people would want to drink. And this is an intensely flavoured Gewürztraminer! It's a fine example of the variety and further evidence of how well it's doing in Niagara. In this example, looked for beautiful aromatics, lifted, concentrated fruit, and great acid balance." 4 1/2 Stars (Rod Phillips, Augsut 2008)
